My 4 year old

Matthew had his 4 year old well-child visit at the end of July, but in keeping with the theme of never having time to blog, I completely forgot to record his stats here.  

Height- 3'31/2" (28th %)

Weight- 34 lb 1 oz (30th%)

Matthew is doing so well.  He continues to have problems with gagging/vomiting and lots of eating issues (also related to gagging/vomiting).  He got a referral for an Upper GI, which was done that same week.  All looked normal.  They did not observe any reflux, but he also was unable to drink very much of the drink due to gagging and then refusing.

Matthew was also referred to a special feeding therapy program.  He is growing just fine, so his weight is not a concern, but we are all concerned at the lack of variety in his diet.  It's picky eating to the extreme, but accompanied with it, is a lot of gagging and throwing up when new foods are introduced.  It makes meal time frustrating, to say the least.  And while, sure, a kid can survive off of bread, cheese, and bananas (lots of other foods too), it would be nice if we could get him to the point of being good with more fruits, vegetables (he refuses all), meats (he refuses all except the occasional chicken nugget, on a good day), pastas, potatoes, and well, normal foods.  His evaluation went well and we are hopeful this program is just what Matthew needs to get him to a healthier place as far as diet.  He has some oral aversions/hypersensitive gag reflex and (it's thought) some residual issues from his reflux he had.  It is theorized that the bad reflux caused so much pain/gagging, he just found foods he was comfortable with ("safe foods") and stuck with them.  He may have been afraid at some point to try others, and then it turned into a behavioral cycle.  

I love this boy.  Oh do I ever.  

Matthew's new favorite past time is building with legos.  He got a few sets for his birthday and I cannot even begin to express how impressive he is with them.  He uses mostly the sets for ages 5-12.  If it's a small kit (all he's gotten so far) he can follow the directions step by step to build whatever it is he's supposed to build, with zero-minimal help from someone.  Then he'll take it apart, try again.  Then he'll just build whatever he feels like building.  It is a lot of fun to watch and as daddy says, "I'm just glad he's finally into something that I like playing with."  Yes, daddy and matthew are having a fine time building together these days.

Matthew had fun going to the summer program at his new preschool.  It was nice for him to have something to do outside of the house.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how he grows and changes in this next year!

Caleb is 5 months!!

Caleb turned 5 months while we were in North Carolina on vacation!

No teddy bear pics because, well, I wasn't about to drag teddy all the way to the Outer Banks with us!  It was enough that I remembered the tie, wasn't it?  

Caleb, you are a sweet, sweet 5 month old.  You continue to just befriend everyone.  Everywhere we go people are so just taken in by you.  They stop to say hi and your face lights up.  You don't just flash a smile, your whole face smiles.  You love that big brother of yours so much!  He stands in front of you and you laugh and go nuts.  We think you are starting to teeth.  You have been getting more and more uncomfortable, shoving those hands in your mouth and clawing around like it is causing you pain.  Your bottom gums feel swollen, but so far we can't see the makings of any teeth.  I would love to say you are sleeping through the night, but that would be a lie.  You were doing pretty well at sleeping with only one wake up in the early morning to eat, but for some reason you've decided you want to be more awake at night.  Some nights you're up 2 times, some 4.  All I know is, mama's tired!  Oh my are you such a handsome, joyful, perfect part of this family.

I recently had to fill out some paperwork for something for Matthew that asked a bunch of questions about his early development and what not.  I pulled out his year one blog book and got (most of) the answers.  It made me so sad for Caleb.  I just do not have the time or energy to keep up with this the way I did back when I had one baby and nothing much to do in a town of nothing much to do.  I need to figure out a way to make it work, because I do adore keeping track in this way, just haven't figured it out yet.  If I get a free moment, there is always something to do.  And sometimes, well sometimes a mama just wants to sit on her ass and read a book or watch mindless TV.

4 months

Guess I better update Caleb being 4 months old before he turns 5 months.  

Caleb had his 4 month appointment this week.  His growth has slowed down some, but the pediatrician wasn't overly concerned.  Just wants me to try a few things to make sure I have enough milk for him.

Height: 24" (12.32 %)

Weight: 14 lbs, 7 oz (33%)

Head: 17" (70th %)

Guess he's got a big brain up in that head.

I have been accused of not keeping track of second kid the way I did with first kid.

Yup. This is true.

For the record....other then a night here or there, he is not fully sleeping through the night.  And when he does, he's still in a rock n play in our bedroom.  He hates laying flat.

He started rolling over, back to tummy right at about 4 months old.  Two weeks later he has figured out tummy to back, but not consistently.  Mostly he rolls over onto his tummy and then freaks until we flip him back over.

He continues to be mr. smiles.  We love him so.
