It's hard to really wrap my brain around the fact that you've been in this world a year already. To say it has flown by is a sincere understatement. It's like I had you, felt your warm teeny tiny little body in my arms for the first time, then I blinked. Suddenly I'm baking a cake and putting a sticker tie on your shirt that says 12 months. I tried so hard to cherish every moment with you. Really I did. There were days when I was overtired and just wanted a few moments of peace. And there were days when I just wanted to hold and snuggle you from sun up until sun down. There were times when you had to wait a bit longer to eat because a mama only has 2 arms and big brother needed something at the exact same moment you did. There were times we sat in the recliner for a few hours, just nursing and rocking because I knew. I knew this time was limited. This time of quiet, still, peaceful moments.
You are so full of personality! Oh the smiles you give people, they just knock everyone's socks off. Literally every where we go I am inundated with compliments on you--that baby! He's so smiley! He's so cute! Look, he's is such a handsome baby! You are friendly. You love to get a smile out of anyone you can. You like to shock people with your bizarre early use of words. Like the day someone handed you a cracker and you looked at them and said "thank you". Seriously. Four other adults heard it and there was just a collective look of surprise.
Some of your favorite things to do are play in the play kitchen in the playroom, throw little plastic balls all over the house, dig through any cabinet or drawer you can find, eat, and play big Lego's with your brother. We await your decision to walk. Who says you have to rush these things? Not you, that's for sure. You are a speed demon on all fours and I think you're perfectly happy as is. There are very few foods you don't enjoy- off the top of my head the only one that really stands out is avocado. To name your favorite foods is crazy, you just love so much. I suppose some of the hands down favorites are cheese, fruits, green beans, applesauce and frozen yogurt bites.
You are a mama's boy. Plain and simple, through and through. You want to be with mama at all times. You don't freak out or throw a fit when mama isn't around, and you do well when left with a sitter or home alone with daddy. But, when mama is home, you are well aware and near me is where you want to be. Sometimes I have to remind myself to slow down, enjoy the fact that you want me while I can, I know this won't last forever. Despite mama's boy status, when daddy comes home from work, watch out! You kick, squeal, smile, beam with delight.
I may not blog as much as I did with one kid, but that's not because you aren't as amazing. We are busy living life and these hands are often too preoccupied with caring for of two amazing boys. I hope you know how happy you have made us. How much joy you've brought to this family. I can only imagine watching you continue to grow will be as much fun as this past year.
Caleb, sweet boy, I love you. Heart, soul, spirit. Happy Birthday to you.
